Lockie Ferguson has been named captain of a second-string New Zealand squad for the ODI series scheduled in Bangladesh this month. Many first-choice players have been given a break post the England tour in order to remain fresh for the World Cup in India.

Regular ODI skipper Kane Williamson has also not been named for the series as he continues to race against time to get fit for the World Cup. Stand-in skipper Tom Latham, wicketkeeper-batters Devon Conway and Glenn Phillips, allrounders Daryl Mitchell and Mitchell Santner, pacers Matt Henry and Tim Southee have all been rested.

Mark Chapman and James Neesham were not considered for selection as the duo would be present for the birth of their respective children. Meanwhile senior pacer Trent Boult has not been handed a break as he was integrated back into the squad only recently.

Uncapped Dean Foxcroft is included in the side and he could be in line to make his bow in the 50-over format as well after recently making his T20I debut for New Zealand in UAE. Head Coach Gary Stead has also been given a break with batting coach Luke Ronchi taking charge for the three games scheduled to be played on September 21, 23 and 26 in Dhaka.
