Ebadot missed out on Asia Cup selection due to injury concerns © AFP Bangladesh pace bowler Ebadot Hossain's participation in the upcoming World Cup appears uncertain as he races against time to regain fitness before the 50-over global tournament scheduled in India from October 5. Officials from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed to  Cricbuzz  that they are contemplating sending Ebadot abroad for a second opinion on his knee injury. This injury had led to his withdrawal from the upcoming Asia Cup as he couldn't achieve the expected recovery after rehabilitation. Reports indicate that Kiron Thoms, the newly-appointed Australian physio and rehabilitation manager, will accompany Ebadot for a check-up session in England during the first week of the upcoming month.   Laura takes over from Sune Luus © Getty Laura Wolvaardt has been appointed the interim captain of South Africa women's team for the upcoming series against Pakistan and New Zealand, Cricket South Africa announced on Thursday. The decision comes following Sune Luus relinquishing her position after having served in that capacity for almost two years in Dane van Niekerk's absence. and vice-captain Chloe Tryon's being unavailable for the Pakistan tour. Mitchell Marsh backs Spencer Johnson to succeed in international cricket

Image
Mitchell Marsh, Australia's captain for the upcoming limited overs series against South Africa, has admitted that uncapped pacer Spencer Johnson will get a chance to make his debut. The left-arm pacer, who has made an impression in the ongoing edition of The Hundred, was picked in the ODI squad after Mitchell Starc was ruled out due to a groin injury. Even as Johnson is currently not a part of Australia's provisional squad for the 50-over World Cup in India later this year, there are still a couple of weeks left for Australia to submit the final squad. Much of Johnson's career has been plagued by injuries since making his List A debut for South Australia in 2017. He eventually made his first-class and T20 debuts in 2023, and has played only 4 FC, 6 List A and 16 T20 games. This season, he bowled a spell of 20-19-1-3 on his debut in The Hundred for the Oval Invincibles against Manchester Originals. "We've got an extended squad, we've got some young guys comi...

'It was Ben's call': Buttler on Stokes's return for ODI World Cup

Image
Jos Buttler said badgering Stokes about coming back wouldn't have worked © Getty England's white-ball captain Jos Buttler maintained that Ben Stokes's  return from ODI retirement  was purely the all-rounder's decision and that the team management took negligible initiative in this regard. Stokes, who had retired from the 50-over format in July 2022, reversed his stance earlier this week and was named in England's provisional World Cup squad. It was after the recently-concluded Ashes series that Stokes decided to communicate his decision to Buttler. The England and Wales Cricket Board had (ECB) left the whole matter in the skipper's hands, given Buttler's well-known rapport with Stokes. While numerous discussions had reportedly happened between the two, the ball had been left in the all-rounder's court. "To be honest, it was Ben's call," Buttler said. "You all know Ben pretty well by now - I don't think anyone talking to him would...
